New Prescription Product, Latisse, Increases Length, Thickness and Darkness of Eyelashes

Monday December 29, 2008

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Latisse (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) 0.03%, a treatment for hypotrichosis of the eyelashes, according to a press release from Allergan, the company that makes the product.

Eyelash hypotrichosis is another name for having inadequate or not enough eyelashes.

Allergan states that "Latisse users can expect to experience longer, fuller, and darker eyelashes in as little as eight weeks, with full results in 16 weeks."

However, the company notes, if Latisse is stopped, eyelashes will gradually return to where they were before treatment.

Allergen expects to start selling Latisse – which is only available with a doctor’s prescription – early in 2009.
